CONCRÈTE COMPOSER
A downloadable sound processor for Windows
AN AUDIOVISUAL CUISINART! COMING TO YOUR NOISE KITCHEN!
It’s a Python tool I built for my own strange amusement, mostly because I wanted to stick a bunch of audio and images into a blender and see what crawled out.
The logic is straightforward: it grabs a folder of sounds completely at random, chops them up, bends them, and rearranges the debris into a procedural audio collage. You can listen to the current output in real time, and if it isn't weird enough, you can instantly trigger a brand-new random generation on the fly while the machine is still running. Once you find a patch of chaos you actually like, it dumps the whole mess straight to disk as a WAV file.
To keep things properly crunchy, it runs the signal through a gauntlet of stutter delays, bitcrushers, reversed buffers, and some of my other favorite, more esoteric distortion methods.
Visually, it gives you a clean spectral view of the playback, but it also pulls random images from a folder and applies basic, high-contrast glitching logic modulated directly by the audio behavior.
For the test data, I’ve been feeding it an archive of IRC channel /action logs from the #audiowarez era (circa 2003 A.D.), a handful of classic Acid Loops, the obligatory Amen Break, and a collection of Frank Booth samples from Blue Velvet.
This program has evolved rapidly and will see new features introduced in the future.
